Ultimate Review of Best Website Traffic Stats Services
Twitter Peaks To Media Overkill, Is Real Time Search Dead?
Last month I pointed out that Twitter’s growth rate had slowed from 76% in March to 39% in April according to Compete. Compete statistics that were recently released show that Twitter’s unique visitor traffic growth for May was stagnant at a mere 1%. To make matters worse, Quantcast has Twitter actually losing traffic in May. This should be of serious concern for Twitter and its investors as the life of Twitter’s recent popularity is still in its infancy despite arguably receiving more media hype than any web service to date. Could Microsoft Be The Rocky Balboa Of Search?
Microsoft has owned the number three search engine for a long time now but that might be changing soon. Whether it was the migration from MSN Search to Live Search, the simpler design displaying a single search box on Live.com, or the implementation of the Live Search Cashback program, Microsoft appears to be rallying as the against all odds underdog of search. Microblogging Startup Review, Status Update: Where Are They Now?
It seems like nearly everyone in the tech world is sick of hearing about Twitter so I thought it would be nice to checkup on some of the other microblogging and micromessaging services that are available. When Twitter launched in 2006 and began receiving some decent attention, copycats came out of the woodwork. Fortunately for Twitter, no direct competitors really had the staying power to launch any kind of real threat to the little birdie. Compete’s latest stats show that Twitter’s monthly unique visitors is up by 39% yet many of its direct competitors are dead or barely breathing. Read more »
Tumblr’s Secret For Success: Adult Content?
Microblogging has been a booming success for Twitter but a bust for many other start-ups that jumped on the bandwagon. An exception to this is Tumblr, who seemed to fill the gap between 140 characters and a full service blogging platform. Tumblr has experienced steady growth since its launch in 2007. The latest traffic stats from Compete report that Tumblr received nearly 2.5 million uniques and 7 million visits for the month of April. Read more »
Twitter’s Traffic Growth Drops: Is Twitter Just A Fad?
Twitter traffic has been growing at incredible rates the past few months due to mass adoption and coverage by the media as well as celebrity endorsements. According to comScore data, traffic in terms of unique visitors at Twitter.com alone (not including traffic from Twitter apps/clients) increased by ~95% for the month of March. Compete’s traffic growth value for unique visitors in March (~76%) was similar. This morning however, Compete released its latest data for the month of April which suggests that the booming traffic growth rate that Twitter was experiencing is slowing. Read more »
If You’re Not Blocking The DiggBar And Other Spambars, You’re Part Of The Problem
It’s incredibly shocking how short some people’s memories are. In the late 1990’s the Web became inundated by frames such that content was practically inaccessible. Fast forward approximately 10 years later and we’re facing the same problem once again. In response to the surging popularity of Twitter and the need to tweet shortened URLs, Digg and others (HootSuite, Krumlr) have resurrected the sleazy technique in an attempt to take advantage of this ever growing trend. By repackaging its frame based toolbar as a social media sharing service Digg hopes to artificially inflate their own visitor statistics and steal traffic from other publishers. Read more »
3 Reasons Why Breaking The DiggBar Can Actually Increase Traffic To Your Website

Digg released their iframe based software toolbar (DiggBar) this week and I’ve been trying to educate both users and publishers as to why frames are a very bad idea. From a publisher’s standpoint, the framing of one’s website by another is considered both unethical and illegal. It effectively steals content, traffic, and potential revenue from the original content owner. From a user’s point of view, the initial attraction to these new framing toolbars (i.e. HootSuite, Krumlr, DiggBar, Facebook) is their ease of use and ability to shorten URLs for use on Twitter. Are Facebook And Digg Hijacking Content, Traffic, Potential Revenue From Publishers?
With Twittermania running rampant, the latest craze is the new social media sharing toolbars that are popping up everywhere. Because Twitter users are limited to only 140 character tweets, url shortening has become essential. Toolbars like HootSuite, Krumlr, and the DiggBar initially sound like a great ideas in that they enable visitors to easily share your content. Read more »
Valleywag Overtakes TechCrunch For Good?
It looks like Silicon Valley’s favorite tech gossip rag blog Valleywag is giving the most popular internet start-up news blog TechCrunch a real run for its money. As you can see traffic stats from Compete has Valleywag in a very close place within a difference of only ~10,000 unique visitors per month. What is more impressive however is the surge in Valleywag’s traffic that was experienced in January and overall growth for the year compared to TechCrunch (3415.3% vs. 749.8%). Given the popular stories that Valleywag has covered this month, we will likely see it overtake Techcrunch again but perhaps for good this time. After all, what’s more interesting to readers; multi-million Read more »
