In case you missed it, last night during MTV’s Video Music Awards, Kanye West ripped the microphone out of Taylor Swift’s hands as she was delivering her acceptance speech for Best Female Video. Immediately afterward he went on a tirade exclaiming how wonderful he thought Beyonce’s video was attempting gain support from the crowd as he was booed. As the camera panned to Beyonce, you could clearly see that she had no part in this and was shocked by what she was witnessing. Thankfully, after accepting her own award later, Beyonce called out Taylor and turned the mic over to her to allow Taylor the opportunity to finish her speech. Here’s the video:
Despite, today’s apology from Kanye West, users on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube are lashing out against his behavior calling him racist, arrogant, rude, and egotistical. Pink twittered the following: “Kanye west is the biggest piece of shit on earth. Quote me”, “My heart goes out to taylor swift. She is a sweet and talented girl and deserved her moment. She should know we love her”, and “Beyonce is a classy lady. I feel for her too. It’s not her fault at all, and her and taylor did their thing. And douche bag got kicked out. HA”. Surprisingly, there was even a tweet from ABC’s Nightline co-author Terry Moran who reported that “Pres. Obama just called Kanye West a “jackass” for his outburst at VMAs when Taylor Swift won. Now THAT’S presidential”. I can’t confirm this is true as Terry Moran hasn’t replied for requests to provide a source on this and he has since deleted that tweet from his account. You can still see Terry Moran’s tweet about Obama calling Kanye a jackass in the Twitter search results however. I’m totally in agreement, however, with everyone’s sentiments that Kanye’s behavior in that it was a very selfish and sleazy on his part. Taylor Swift should have retrieved the mic and hit him over the head with her award. This guy clearly needs an attitude adjustment. What Kanye doesn’t realize yet is that these tirades are costing him income. That is, advertisers don’t want to hire individuals that behave like that, are accused of being racist, and have such a poor reputation. It’s also very likely that these stunts are affecting his album sales too.
Kanye West has pulled numerous blockhead moves in the past. Some of his most idiotic stunts include saying that president “George Bush hates black people” during the fundraiser for Hurricane Katrina victims (see video below) and ranting on stage when he didn’t win an award at the MTV European Music Awards (see video below). This latest act appears as though his ego has ballooned to such a point that he has no sense of reality. Regardless of the reasons, his actions spoke volumes last night about his character and the negative press he’s receiving today is very much justified in the eyes of the public. Personally, I hope he’s learned his lesson and he starts seeking professional help from a board certified psychiatrist soon!
