logo_beta Jott Notes, Reminders, People, And Services While You DriveHave you ever been driving and had a great idea but didn’t have a pen handy to write it down and thus forgot it soon thereafter? Perhaps you’ve needed to take a note or create a reminder but didn’t have any paper nearby? Better yet, what about creating updates to your calendar or to-do lists? If you’ve ever experienced such problems Jott maybe the solutions for you. Jott is a free voice to text service that enables you to take notes on the fly, create reminders and to-do lists, send emails and text messages to your contacts and groups, create blog posts, and even access your favorite web services (i.e. Google Calendar, Twitter, etc. ) via simple voice commands from your mobile phone.

The service is particularly helpful while driving when texting and writing aren’t such a great idea. Prior to Jotting, one needs to simply create a Jott account and then add contacts to your his/her Jott account. Then it’s just a matter of calling 1-866-Jott-123 (866-568-8123) and saying the command for the Jott you want to create; Jott to yourself (say “myself”), Jott to someone else (say name of contact), Jott a reminder (say “reminder”), Jott to a list (say name of list), Jott to a group (say the name of group), or Jott to access a web service (say name of service). Various popular web services are compatible with Jott Links (Jotting to services), including Google Calendar, Twitter, Amazon, Yahoo! Groups, Blogger, TypePad, WordPress, LiveJournal, Jaiku, Tumblr, Remember The Milk, 30 Boxes, Zillow, and many more.

I’ve been using Jott for more than 6 months now and I’ve found it to be very useful and seems to work quite well with very little problems. I would suggest this to anyone that is on the move quite a bit or travels frequently. I have heard that it is particularly useful for attorneys and physicians as well.

What I Like About Jott:

  • ability to send emails and text messages to contacts
  • nice group functionality
  • integrated to work with multiple web apps and services
  • can create Google Calendar events
  • Jott blogging
  • create and access your to-do lists
  • the fact that it’s free

What I Dislike About Jott:

  • Jott-generated texts don’t reach my friends who use Sprint as their mobile phone carrier
  • Sometimes my Jott-generated Google Calendar events don’t reflect my correct time zone

UPDATE:

Jott recently made some updates to their service see the full post here:
