I found out my default screen capture tool was broken the other day, leaving me to research why I was getting black blobs instead of captured images. In the process I came across a handful of other screenshot tools, some of which I had yet to try out. It never hurts to have a plan B when something breaks down. Apparently June is Backup Awareness Month and, despite this being the first time I’ve heard of it, it’s been around since 2005 when Maxtor declared it so. Being a victim of a failed hard drive myself, I think this is a great opportunity to remind people to backup their hard drive’s content frequently as most of that data is likely irreplaceable. If you currently don’t have an online backup solution, I would strongly suggest you find an off-site backup provider as on-site (in-house) solutions such as external backup hard drives aren’t fail safe either. Alerts, Yotify, and Google Alerts prior to testing and I can say without a doubt that Notify.me beats them all hands down in terms of the least amount of lag time. Using a test blog I measured the elapsed time between the instant an article was published to the RSS feed and the actual time the notification was received from Notify.me. In three separate tests, Notify.me alerts were delivered within one to four minutes after publishing. This is extremely fast in comparison to the others listed below and why Notify.me is an excellent tool for following favorite blogs for which you are interested in commenting as well as other feed based content that is extremely time sensitive.
