Within the past year or so advertising marketplaces have sprung up to meet the need for the tremendous growth rate of new blogs. In this article we take a closer look at the more popular ones that are available and the differences between them. The revenue share, type of ads, size of ads, and other distinctions vary across these networks for buying and selling ads on your blog. Some of them are simple 125×125 banner ad networks and others like the new Technorati Engage are a little more elaborate and include buying and selling ads on a cost per click (CPC) basis as well.
Technorati Engage – Just launched yesterday but it looks like it has great potential. Bloggers are given the ability to set ad prices on a per week basis and set the categories of advertisers that can buy ads on his/her website. Once a publisher receives an offer he/she is given a 48 hour window to decide whether or not to accept the advertiser. The ads themselves are currently available in three units including text ads, PhoText (image + text) ads, and square button ads (125×125). Ad sizes are customizable to fit your needs. Technorati ad units are able to rotate ads from several advertisers and those that aren’t served are filled with CPC ads instead. Technorati takes a 40% share of your generated ad revenue and permits you to receive payment via check, PayPal, or electronic transfer.
