For the most part I’m very happy with my Google Android driven T-Mobile G1. The Android Market is continually growing as new free apps appear every day to fill almost any type of need. However there are a number of things still missing that I wish would be addressed and added soon. Below is my list of the top 7 features/apps that I’d like to see added soon. Hopefully some of these features/functions will be implemented in the next update release of Android call Cupcake that’s rumored to occur sometime late in January.

If you haven’t tried adding photos or your favorite songs to your new T-Mobile G1 yet, you’re in for a surprise. I tried multiple times to connect my G1 to my Mac via bluetooth or USB cable without any success. I even tried connecting to my virtual machine (Windows XP) running off of Parallels but that didn’t work either. Fortunately after a few attempts I was able to make it work using a USB connection. It totally makes sense once you’ve done it but its not at all intuitively designed.

Notify.me - This is a notification service that alerts you of any new content that’s added to an RSS feed. I’ve used Yahoo! Alerts, Yotify, and Google Alerts prior to testing and I can say without a doubt that Notify.me beats them all hands down in terms of the least amount of lag time. Using a test blog I measured the elapsed time between the instant an article was published to the RSS feed and the actual time the notification was received from Notify.me. In three separate tests, Notify.me alerts were delivered within one to four minutes after publishing. This is extremely fast in comparison to the others listed below and why Notify.me is an excellent tool for following favorite blogs for which you are interested in commenting as well as other feed based content that is extremely time sensitive. Notify.me can be used for other things such as tracking items on eBay or Craigslist, receiving automatic notification of new job posts, following breaking new stories, and much more. Alerts can be sent to you via SMS, email, instant messaging, or via Notify.me’s own Adobe AIR application.
