Xoopit logoXoopit is a Firefox plugin for Gmail that enables you to quickly find photos, videos, and files that have been attached or linked within emails that you’ve sent or received. It is especially helpful when you are trying to hunt down that email you sent with an important attached image or document. Instead of trying to find that specific email, now you can just grab the file directly using Xoopit. Thus you’ll never misplace an attachment again!

After you register for a Xoopit account and install the Firefox plugin for Gmail, Xoopit automatically indexes and aggregates all the images, files, and videos that are associated with your Gmail account and conveniently sorts them according to type. Xoopit’s sharing features make it easy to quickly attach comments and notes to a given file and simply pass it on to your friends. Other current means of sharing include posting it to your Facebook account or your blog. Xoopit also has an iGoogle Gadget to display the latest photos and videos on your iGoogle dashboard.

My only complaint of the service is that I can’t manage multiple files at once (e.g. delete more than one photo at a time). The function may already exist but I can’t seem to find it, if it does please let me know. Xoopit plans to expand and support other email services like Yahoo!, Hotmail, AOL, and .Mac as well. Xoopit is currently in private beta but you can request an invite here. If you’re unsuccessful, comment on this post using your chosen email address and I can personally send you an invite. I only have 5 invites though, so first-come, first-served.
